Hesed House Opening
Hesed House of Hope, Lincoln County’s homeless shelter, is now open for the winter season.  The shelter is located at 100 Ann Gaither Court, Lincolnton.  Guests wishing to stay overnight at the shelter should arrive at 6 p.m.  Anyone wanting to volunteer to provide a meal or spend the night should contact kenlong626@hotmail.com.
Watch Night Service

Dance In Maiden
American Legion Maiden Post 240 is hosting a New Year’s Eve Dance Saturday at their Post 240 building located across the street from Maiden Elementary School. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Good Time Band will play at 8:30 p.m. Proceeds will help offset the costs of Post 240’s children and youth programs. For directions and ticket prices, call (828) 428-9600.
Nutrition Meetings
Lincoln County Senior Center is hosting nutrition meetings next month on Glaucoma Awareness. Meetings are 9:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 3 at the Center and 2-4 p.m. Jan. 17 at the East Lincoln Community Center. They are also offering an Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays Jan. 10 through Mar. 1. For more information and to register, contact (704) 732-9053.
Observatory Viewing
The Lucile Miller Observatory, located on the campus of Maiden Middle School on North C Ave. in Maiden, is set to open at 7 p.m. on Jan. 6. The event will focus on basic stargazing for beginners and is free and open to the public. Visitors may bring their own telescopes. For directions, visit www.catawbasky.org. Last Man’s Club
The Last Man’s Club WWII Veterans of Lincoln County will hold their monthly meeting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 4 at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Lincolnton. All WWII veterans and guests are invited to attend. One veteran’s raffle winner will receive a handmade quilt.
Diabetes Recipe Swap
CMC-Lincoln is hosting Diabetes Thursday’s Treat Cooking and Recipe Swap class at 3 p.m. on Jan. 5 at Lincoln Medical Plaza, adjacent to the hospital. Youth Baseball Tryouts
The Westlake Warriors 11 & under team is holding tryouts from 3-5 p.m. at the Denver Batting Center on Jan. 8.  The team will be playing 7-8 tournaments during the spring/summer season.  Practices will be three days a week in the Denver area. Financial Peace Univ.
