Weapons stash found under blazing house

On Christmas day, flames consumed an Iron Station residence where deputies said they located several firearms beneath the home.
Fire officials responded just after 6 p.m. to 1848 Brevard Place Road.
After finding guns and ammunition stored under the house, fire officials said they called for assistance from the Sheriff’s Office.
Among the items seized were an AK-47 assault rifle and two 30-round banana clips with live rounds, a report said.
One of the residents, 45-year-old sex offender Van Williams, who had been arrested earlier this month for illegally accessing Facebook, reportedly told deputies that he had only been staying at the residence for the last three months and didn’t know the items had been stored under the house.
Deputies said the Red Cross put up many of the residents at a hotel for the night.
No injuries were reported.
An investigation into the fire is ongoing, but fire officials believe the blaze stemmed from an electrical problem at the home.
