Lincoln County deputies apprehended a wanted man Friday following a traffic stop on N.C. 27, later learning the man was wanted on charges in Gaston County and Indiana.
Authorities said they stopped the vehicle carrying Willie Cox Jr., 42, of 310 West Park Dr., after noticing that the woman driving the vehicle signaled twice without turning.
Deputies said that, during the stop, Cox and the vehicle smelled heavily of alcohol. At first, Cox refused to reveal his correct name, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
After running his information, authorities learned that he was wanted by Indiana law enforcement for a probation violation and Gaston County officers on charges involving breaking and entering and damage to property.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has additionally charged him with one-count each of resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer and open container of alcohol.
Cox has previous felony convictions in Gaston County dating back to 1989, including breaking and entering and larceny, a conviction for which he was sentenced him to more than eight years behind bars, according to the Department of Correction.
Cox is currently being held without bond in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center.
