McGuire workers donating toys

The United States Marine Corps loaded more than 220 bicycles and hundreds of other gifts for needy children into moving trucks at Duke Energy’s McGuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville on Monday afternoon.
According to a press release sent out by the company, employees at the plant have collected “a generous offering of toys and bikes” for children in the community as part of their annual Toys for Tots collection drive.
Among the items donated were a guitar, stuffed animals, dolls, soccer balls, games and helmets to go along with the bikes.
The release states that employees provided over a thousand toys, in addition to the bikes, and children’s winter clothes for local families this holiday season.
“It’s great to support Toys for Tots and provide all these toys and bikes for children who are not able to have a big Christmas,” said one McGuire employee, Jerry Garver, in the release. “It is fortunate that I have a good job and can provide for my children, and this is the least I can do to help out.”
Throughout the year, McGuire Nuclear Station also participates in other community drives to provide fans for seniors, coats to local families and supplies for local schools.
