Deputies arrested a Wal-Mart employee and store customer Thursday for allegedly working together to steal from the Denver business.
Amber Nichole Burris, 20, of 114 Rollins Street in Stanley, is accused of taking funds on more than one occasion from the cash register where she worked at the Wal-Mart on N.C. 73, authorities said. The incidents had been taking place since October, a report noted.
In addition, the store’s loss prevention officers told deputies that on two separate occasions, Burris attempted to put free money on a pre-paid card belonging to 28-year-old Michael Donovan Colston, of Rosecraft Drive in Charlotte.
Donovan not only didn’t pay for the card, authorities said, but he also tried to cash a fraudulent check totaling more than $900.
Colston is currently being held on an outstanding warrant in the Gaston County jail under a $500 secured bond. Burris faces an embezzlement charge and remains behind Lincoln County bars under a $5,000 secured bond.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office authorities said an investigation is continuing into whether or not additional charges will be filed in the case.
