Observatory Open
The Lucile Miller Observatory, located on the campus of Maiden Middle School, will be open for the monthly public observing beginning 7 p.m. today. Weather permitting, the group will observe Jupiter, the moon and the early winter sky. In case of bad weather, an indoor program will be presented.

Festival of Trees
The Arts Council of Lincoln County invites everyone to the first Festival of Trees during the month of December. The Festival of Trees is a dazzling array of personalized Christmas trees, a preview reception, silent art auction, live local music performances, celebrity Santas and a homemade cookie sale. There will also be a “best of trees” contest. The event will be at the former CMC-Lincoln Medical Center located at 200 Gamble Drive in Lincolnton.
Toy Consignment Sale
Asbury United Methodist Church, Asbury Church Road in Lincolnton, will host a toy consignment sale 7:30-9:30 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Consignors earn 90% cash from all items sold. Proceeds benefit the church’s Children’s Mission Fund. To consign, e-mail krdellinger@gmail.com.
Breakfast with Santa
Hill’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 988 S. Hwy. 16 in Lowesville, will host “Breakfast with Santa” 9 a.m. Saturday. After eating breakfast, children will make crafts and have their pictures taken with Santa. Pictures will be e-mailed to parents. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Job Fair
Lincolnton Furniture Company is having a job fair 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln School of Technology, 1 Timken Drive in Lincolnton. Positions are available in all manufacturing departments. Managers will be available. Bring your resume or come fill out an application to be part of their team.
Denver Christmas Parade
The Denver Christmas parade begins 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The route is on Hwy. 16 Business between N. Pilot Knob Rd. and Triangle Circle. Denver’s tree lighting is 6 p.m. Friday at Lake Norman Lutheran Church.
Christmas Bazaar
Zion Hill Baptist Church, 8173 Old NC 18 Hwy. in Lawndale, will host a Christmas bazaar 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. Breakfast, crafts, baked and canned goods will be available. Call (704) 538-9224 for more information.
Westlake Warriors
The Westlake Warriors 10U team will have tryouts 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Denver Batting Center. The team will play 7-8 tournaments with practices twice a week in the Lake Norman area. Call (704) 900-4124 for more information.
Maiden BBQ

Union V.F.D.
Union Volunteer Fire Department will have their annual Christmas dinner 6 p.m. Saturday in the Daniels Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 3170 Reepsville Rd. in Lincolnton. Eleven surviving WWII veterans from the Howard’s Creek Township will be the honored guests of Union’s firefighters, retired firefighters, board members and families.
First Sunday Lunch
Crouse United Methodist Church, Old Hwy. 150 in Crouse, will have their “First Sunday” lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Cost is a suggested donation of $8 per plate of fried chicken with all the trimmings. Proceeds benefit the building and renovation fund. Both dine in and take out are available.
The “Icecycle”
Carolina Faith Riders of Hull’s Grove Baptist Church is sponsoring the 6th annual “Icecyle” toy run beginning 1 p.m. Sunday.  Staging begins at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church, 6670 W. Piecemakers Quilters

L.H.S. School Improvement Team
The Lincolnton High School SIT (School Improvement Team) meets 3:10 p.m. Wednesday in the school’s media center. These meetings are open to the public.
