Deputies are searching for a gunman who entered a house of worship on the eastern end of the county over the weekend and demanded money from two people inside.
The incident occurred just after 8 p.m. Saturday at the Jehovah’s Witnesses meeting place on Buffalo Shoals Road, officers said.
Those present told deputies that a Hispanic male, who was wearing dark, baggy clothes and a ski mask, accessed the building through an unlocked door and pointed a silver-colored handgun at them, demanding money.
No one was harmed in the incident, deputies said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man quickly fled the property in the direction of Bethel Church Road after those present told him they didn’t have any money.
Once the intruder was gone, those present called 911 and locked down the building.
When deputies arrived on scene, they set up a perimeter around the area, but were unsuccessful in locating the gunman, they said.
