Deputies: K-9 search finds coke in Cadillac

Deputies followed a suspicious-looking vehicle to a residence off N.C. 27 Sunday morning and arrested the driver for alleged cocaine possession.
Authorities said they noticed the burgundy Cadillac along with a crack in the windshield as it passed by them sometime after 3 a.m. on East Main Street in Lincolnton. The driver was later identified as Lacharzo Morrell Forney, 30, of 6524 Old Plank Road in southeastern Lincoln County.
Deputies proceeded to follow the suspect’s vehicle to a residence on Andover Lane where they said he immediately fled the car and proceeded to knock on all the home’s windows and front entrance.
According to deputies, when Forney refused to let them search his vehicle, they called in K-9 assistance and an officer with the Sheriff’s Office Drug Interdiction Criminal Enforcement team.
The K-9 “alerted officers to possible drugs” inside the vehicle, authorities said.
Deputies said they proceeded to search the vehicle where they located 2.5 grams of cocaine from the car’s console and a device used for grinding cocaine.
Deputies seized these as evidence and charged Forney with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He has since been released from the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center on a $5,000 secured bond.
