City election on Tuesday

Lincolnton residents who are of age and registered to vote are reminded that they are eligible to participate in Tuesday’s city election.

Voting will take place from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. at all precincts that include Lincolnton voters, including:

  • Boger City Fire Department for the Asbury precinct,

  • Lincoln County School of Technology for the Boger City precinct,

  • North 321 Volunteer Fire Department for the Hickory Grove precinct,

  • Charles Raper Jonas Library for the Lincolnton/North precinct,

  • Lincoln County Citizens Center for the Lincolnton/South precinct,

  • Old Lincoln Medical Center for the Lithia precinct and

  • Salem Baptist Church for the Salem precinct.

Mayoral candidates include incumbent Republican John Gilleland Jr. and his Democratic opponent Pamela Huskey. The winner will serve a two-year term.

The winners of two City Council races will serve four-year terms.

For the City Council Ward II seat, Democratic incumbent Dr. John “Les” Cloninger is being challenged by Republican Sam Ausband Jr.

In the race for the Ward IV seat in the City Council are Democratic incumbent Larry Mac Hovis and his Republican opponent Tim Shain.

The candidates must be residents of the wards from which they are running in order to compete. However, voters citywide can participate in selecting the winner of each contest.
