The semiannual Belk Charity Sale will take place on Nov. 5 at the Charlotte-based department store’s various locations, with tickets on sale today.
The four-hour shopping sale will directly benefit participating nonprofit charities and schools, allowing them to keep 100 percent of each $5 ticket sold, according to a press release regarding the event.
Barbara Dudley, human resources manager at Belk in Lincolnton, said the store has 15 groups participating, at least three of which are schools.
Shoppers will have the opportunity to save between 20 and 70 percent off purchases on “seldom-discounted merchandise,†states the announcement.
They will also get $5 off their first purchases by presenting their tickets to sales associates, according to Belk’s website.
“Belk is committed to being involved in our communities and supporting causes important to our customers,†Jessica Graham, vice president, communications and community relations at Belk, said in the release.
“Each Belk Charity Sale offers us the opportunity to reach thousands of nonprofits across our footprint and to help them raise much-needed funds.â€
Advance tickets have been on sale for more than a month, and beginning today, tickets may also be purchased at Belk stores.
Dudley said participating groups can sign up to sell tickets in the store through the day of the sale.
There is no limit to the number of tickets charities can sell or to the amount of money they can raise.
Additionally, Belk provides tickets and informational materials at no cost to each participating organization.
Dudley said proceeds raised are divided among the groups based on their hours contributed selling tickets during the week and helping within the store on the day of the sale, adding that it’s “100 percent profit for the clubs.â€
Organizations will also register to win one of three $1,000 donations from Belk at each store location.
The announcement states that the 2010 Belk Charity Sale raised more than $9.5 million for hundreds of participating charitable organizations.
The sale is 6-10 a.m. Nov. 5.
