Winning is not always about getting. Sometimes it is about giving and that is exactly what the winner of Austin Orthodontic’s Taylor Swift Talent Contest proved.
The talent contest was Sept. 24 at Austin Orthodontics in Lincolnton with 20 contestants competing for the two VIP tickets to see Taylor Swift perform Nov. 16 in Charlotte.
Judges, who included Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter, 2011-12 Lincoln County Apple Queen Alyssa Duhon, and News Channel 14 Charlotte producer Vanessa Rojas, were tied in their decision with two contestants scoring the same number of points.
Taylor Stamey of Lincolnton sang and played the keyboard to Taylor Swift’s song, “Beautiful, Beautiful,†while Jacob Burgess of Lincolnton sang and played the guitar to Maroon 5’s song “Sunday Morning.â€
After careful deliberation, the judges made a decision to announce the winner as Jacob Burgess, who said he was competing in the contest so that his mom and sister could see Taylor Swift perform.
Taylor Stamey was keeping a brave face when the announcement was made, but Jacob detected disappointment and without hesitation offered both of the tickets to Taylor.
However, Dr. Austin finally convinced Jacob to keep one of the tickets for all his hard work and tremendous talent.
