YMCA ‘Krewe’ event set for Saturday

Weather conditions are predicted to be nearly perfect for this weekend’s Krewe IX event, an annual fundraiser for the Lincoln County YMCA.

This year’s event, in memory of Krewe founder Keith Turner, is scheduled for 3-9 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Woodside Plantation on Hwy. 182 West in Lincolnton, home of Rick and Sue Ramseur.

Julie Foreman of the Lincoln County YMCA said plenty of fun activities are planned for adults and children alike at Saturday’s event.

Event-goers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to kick back, socialize and enjoy some good entertainment.

A Hickory-based oldies band, The Extraordinaires, will perform from 6-9 p.m., playing a wide variety of music that is sure to get people up out of their chairs and onto the dance “floor.”

For the kids, Rick Ramseur will present a magic show at 5 p.m. The kids can also tour the barn and meet some of the Ramseurs’ animals up close.

Bluegrass music by Ramseur’s band will also be featured in the barn, while tours of the historic plantation are being conducted.

Other planned activities are an antique car show and face painting.

“There really is something for the entire family to enjoy,” Foreman said.

Those attending the event will be able to purchase fresh pizza made onsite by Wood Fired Pizzas. Free dessert will be provided for all who attend.

The annual event usually draws between 300-500 participants. Net proceeds are used to provide youth programs and scholarships for the Lincoln County YMCA. All of the proceeds stay in the Lincolnton community.

“Our goal for this event is $6,000,” Foreman said.

Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $25 for a family.

“We decided to offer a family ticket to make it more affordable for families to attend,” Foreman said.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Lincoln County YMCA. However, they may also be purchased at the door. For more information, call (704) 748-9311.
