Blackburn Baptist Church is hosting a free five-week long computer security class. Topics include basic computer security terms and virus and email protection, among others. The youth department of Lakeside Church in Denver is collecting food bank items now through Dec. 10. The food will be donated to “those who need a little help” at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Large donations can be picked up by appointment. For more information, contact 704-489-6320.

The Lincoln County Branch of the NAACP will host its annual Sam and Annie Biggers Scholarship Banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton. St. Peter By the Lake Episcopal Church in Denver is hosting a flu shot clinic in conjunction with CVS pharmacy from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Lake Norman Regional Medical Center will also be on-hand offering free screenings for blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and fat analysis. Liberty Baptist Church in Maiden will host their fall festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. The City of Cherryville and Cherryville Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting the ninth annual “Little Spooks Parade” at 10 a.m. on Oct. 28 on Main Street. Area daycare centers, police and fire departments and Cherryville High School band members will march in the parade. The public is invited to attend the free event in costume.
