Hatley mum about firing deputy clerk

A high-ranking county court official was fired Friday in Lincoln County, but the person’s name is not being disclosed.

Lincoln County Clerk of Superior Court Fred Hatley confirmed with the Times-News on Friday afternoon that he had let one of the county’s deputy clerks of court go that morning.

But Hatley claimed he was unable to disclose the official’s name or much more about the decision.

He claimed the dismissal was “a personnel matter” and said he’s not even allowed to disclose the reasoning behind the firing to the person who was let go.

He expects to fill the position after 60 days, he said. Hatley also noted that the two-month wait period is due to tight budgets and a rough economy.
