In support of the newly organized Crime Stoppers Program in Lincoln County, the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Fraternal Order of Police has agreed to donate $3,000 to help the program get off the ground.
“The Crime Stoppers Program is something we feel very strongly about. We feel it is a good organization that will help area law enforcement solve more crimes,†local FOP president Brian Greene said.
The FOP’s decision to financially support the formation of an area Crime Stoppers Program came during the second half of the organizational meeting held Aug. 21.
The local FOP includes the Lincolnton Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Maiden Police Department, Cherryville Police Department and Charlotte Airport Police.
The Crime Stoppers Program will allow the public to get paid for providing anonymous tips that lead to arrests.
There is also grant money available from Gov. Mike Easley to help advertise and market the Crime Stoppers Program in the school systems.
