Campbell staff member recognized by NC DECA

Jodi Stamey Peeler was recognized by North Carolina DECA (NC DECA) as an Honorary Life Member at the 2007 DECA State Leadership Conference in Greensboro. Peeler received the honor for her dedication to the organization and her influence on the lives of North Carolina’s Youth.
The honorary Life Membership Award is presented to an individual who has provided and continues to provide outstanding leadership and service to the NC DECA.
“When I began the marketing course in 1992, I had no idea I would be influenced so much by a student organization,” said Peeler. “I am thankful to have been a part of such a worthwhile organization like DECA at an early age.”
Jodi has served NC DECA in various capacities since 1993; first as a local chapter member from her school in Lincoln County, and as state conference winner each year. She also represented NC DECA as national competitor throughout all four years of high school. In addition, Jodi traveled the state of N.C. speaking to various civic organizations and high school marketing programs about leadership and teamwork and its relationship to marketing while she served as NC DECA state vice president in 1996 and state president in 1997.
Since 1997, Jodi has played an integral role at the annual State Leadership Conference serving as director of state officer training, presenting leadership workshops and judging competitive events. She has attended every state conference since 1993 and continues to judge the public relations chapter project and serve as the announcer for quiz bowl during the conference.
As the director of alumni relations with Campbell University School of Pharmacy, Peeler is responsible for the overall management of the pharmacy alumni program including planning alumni events, reunions and fundraising activities. Peeler completed her Masters of Business Administration at the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business at Campbell University and graduated cum laude from N.C. State University with a B.A. in communication and a minor in business management. She is active in the community, serving as past-president of the NC State communication alumni Board of Advisors and as a member of the Raleigh Public Relations Society board of directors.
NC DECA is an association of high school students enrolled in the Marketing Education program. Through classroom learning, on-the-job training, and experiences in DECA, students in the program learn marketing, management, and entrepreneurship skills. The student organization provides participants an opportunity to excel in various areas of marketing and management.
“The leadership skills, professionalism and marketing knowledge instilled in me through my DECA experience influenced and shaped the person I am today,” said Peeler. “I owe much of myself to NC DECA and I hope to continue to be a part of this association helping others to gain a sense of self through DECA. I want to give back to the organization that gave me so much.”
