2 injured in two-car collision

A two-car collision in Vale at the intersection of Cat Square and Zur Leonard roads at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday has left one man with potential serious internal injuries.
According to State Highway Patrol Trooper Shannon Boyles, the driver of a white sedan was traveling westbound on Zur Leonard Road, intending to proceed past Cat Square Road and onto Dan Rhyne Road.
Boyles said the driver of the white sedan failed to yield to the right-of-way and collided with a burgundy sedan, traveling north on Cat Square Road.
“They met in the intersection,” Boyles said.
Union Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Lincoln County EMS crews and determined the severity of injuries to one of the drivers prompted the necessity of calling in a helicopter to airlift that driver to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte; the other driver’s injuries were deemed minor injuries and authorities transported him to CMC-Lincoln.

Editor’s Note: The names of the drivers were not available at press time.
