Despite playing without one of their leading scorers, the Lady Knights of North Lincoln beat Lincolnton 45-35 Thursday evening to reach the championship game.
Junior Kayla Alexander did not play after injuring her left shoulder versus South Iredell.
While that’s disappointing, Kathryn Thorne, Ashley Thackeray and Kayleigh Brown all stepped up in Alexander’s absence.
Thorne scored a team-high 14 points, while Thackeray complemented her with 12 points of her own for the Lady Knights (4-8, 1-2). Brown also was in double-figures with 11 in the win.
Senior Jessie Cline led Lincolnton with 17 points, while Charlotte Clark chipped in seven in the loss for the Lady Wolves (1-8, 1-1).
North Lincoln head coach Mark Lackey was pleased with his team’s play.
“It was a big win for us. We didn’t have Kayla, but our kids stepped it up individually. We did some good things and we made some mistakes, but we played through them,†he said.
So what is the Knights’ mindset entering the championship game versus West Lincoln?
“Really, we want to do the same thing as we did tonight. We want to come out and play with as few of mistakes as we can, do a better job rebounding and work our offense, be a little more patient,†Lackey said.
