Mustangs struggling

East Lincoln’s opening of its new gym was supposed to make this year’s First Charter Holiday Classic special… so far, it’s been anything but.
Both the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs have lost back-to-back games in the tourney’s first two nights.
On the men’s side, East Lincoln fell to Mooresville Wednesday night 54-49.
Payton Brady paced the Mustangs with 17 points, while Alex Newsome had 11 points in the loss.
Johnson scored a team-high 14 points, while Maynard contributed 12 points to lead the Blue Devils to the opening round win.
Thursday night, Providence beat the Mustangs 55-49 despite a big night from Alex Newsome.
Newsome scored a team-high 19 points, while Keith Rendleman was also in double-figures with 10 points.
Berlacher and Bradbury paced Providence with 22 points and 19 respectively.
On the women’s side, East Gaston beat East Lincoln 69-47 Wednesday night behind 26 points from Sealey.
Sarah Webb led the Lady Mustangs with 17 points, while Jennifer Carpenter had 12 points in the loss.
Thursday, the Lady Mustangs lost to Southlake Christian 65-57.
Both Krista Moore and Webb had 13 points in the losing cause, while Kiandra Long chipped in 11.
South Lake had two players score 20 points or more.
The Mustangs and Lady Mustangs will play for seventh place today.
