MEETING
The Friends of the Florence Shanklin Memorial Library’s monthly meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, May 8. A presentation will be made by Kevin Starr, Lincoln County extension service director.

WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP
A Christian women’s fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of Westport Baptist Church 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11. Guest speaker will be Mona Hearn. Music will be provided by Rachel Ann Curtis. BARBECUE
The annual Masonic charity barbecue starts 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Denver lodge on St. James Church Road. Cost is $7 per plate with proceeds benefiting Masonic charities in North Carolina.

PLANT SALE

COMMUNITY FEST

FISHING SEMINAR
A free, two hour class on learning how to catch big catfish begins 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 in the upstairs meeting space at the Bass Pro Shop in Concord Mills Mall. Please call (704) 979-2200 for more information. It will be taught by Lake Norman fishing guides Mac Byrum and Gus Gustafson.

FESTIVAL/FASHION SHOW
The 21st annual Strawberry Festival, to benefit the East Lincoln High School parent/teachers association will be held 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at ELHS. The group is also planning a fashion show at 6:30 p.m. at Verdict Ridge Country Club on Thursday, May 11. Tickets for that show are $20 and there are a limit of 150 tickets. REGULAR EVENTS
The Democratic Men’s Group of Lincoln County meets 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the Captain’s Cap Restaurant, N.C. 16, Denver. For more information on the meetings, call Forrest Chambless at (704) 460-6544.

The East Lincoln Recreation Center is open for indoor walking from 8:30 a.m. Monday – Friday. The center is located on Optimist Road.

Senior Citizens Exercise Classes are 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the East Lincoln Community Center. A fee of $30 per month is required. Quilting is held every Monday from 10 a.m. – noon and knitting is held every Thursday from 10 a.m. – noon. There is no charge for the quilting or knitting classes. The new Greek Orthodox Church celebrates divine liturgy at 5 p.m. every Saturday. Services are held at 137 Overhill Drive, Mooresville in the Talbert Pointe Business Park. The Computer Users Group of Lincolnton meets 10:30 a.m. the first Saturday of each month at the Charles R. Jonas Library, Lincolnton. Guests and new members are welcome.

Fairfield United Methodist Church, 7960 Fairfield Church Road, Denver, hosts Singing & Sharing at 6 p.m. the last Sunday of each month. Anyone who wishes to share in Christian fellowship is invited to join this celebration, which has no set format. The April program features 14-year-old Taner Mundy. There is no preaching. Salem United Methodist Church, 378 North Pilot Knob Road, Denver holds a community dinner from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the family life center. Donations are accepted at the door. Menus and meal sponsors vary.

Lake Norman Flotilla 17-8 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary holds its monthly meeting the first Saturday of each month (no meeting in July or December). The meeting is held at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church on Perth Road, which is north of N.C. 150. Sessions open with coffee at 9 a.m., followed by the meeting, which is held from 9:15 – 10:30 a.m. Visitors 17 and over are welcome. For more information call Kathy Smith at (704) 664-1933.
