Mustangs bounce back
The Mustangs tennis team picked up back-to-back wins over St. Stephens and East Gaston this week.
East Lincoln edged St. Stephens Tuesday 5-4 before beating East Gaston 6-3 a day later.
Against the Warriors, Drew Keener, Houston Stokes, Alex Willhite and Carson Leonhardt recorded singles wins.
In doubles, Kendall Law/Willhite and Adam Pressley/Keener earned victories.
Scoring wins for the Mustangs against the Indians were:, Adam Pressley, Willhite and Leonhardt.
In doubles, Pressley/Keener and Stokes/Leonhardt notched victories.
â€œThis was a good win for us. East Gaston returned most of their starters from last year,â€ East Lincoln head coach Mike Davis said. â€œHopefully, we can build on the momentum we have going and continue to improve,â€ he added.
Lincolnton fell to Newton-Conover 9-0 Wednesday. The inexperienced Wolves fall to 0-3 on the season.
Lincolnton Lady Soccer
The Lady Wolves soccer team won their first scrimmage game in school history recently with a 4-1 victory over North Gaston.
Freshman right forward Olivia Thompson scored three of the Lady Wolves goals.
Sophomore left forward Kim Zuniga was responsible for Thompsonâ€™s second goal with a well-executed corner kick.
Freshman right midfielder Ashton Ritter assisted Thompsonâ€™s third goal. The fourth goal was made by freshman center midfielder Morgan Turner off a pas from Monserrat Perez.
Lincolnton head coach Melanie Bell cited the defensive play of Megan Wallace, Monica Gamboa, Daniela Martinez and junior Angie Gamboa.
Freshman goalie Stephanie Brown was credited with three saves in the win.
