Baxter lifts Knights
The Lady Knights rebounded from a loss to rival Maiden with a 6-2 win over Lake Norman Monday.
Nicole Baxter (2-1) struck out 10 batters in winning her second of the season, but allowed an over-the-fence homer by Meghan Sboro in the top of the seventh.
Baxter also led the Lady Knights at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Freshman Emily Torbert also went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Kim Shoemaker and Torbert’s older sister Jenna each had one RBI.
McKenzie Harkey, Kayla Alexander and April wilson each singled in the win.
The Lady Knights will play host to Ashbrook Friday at 4 p.m.

West Lincoln softball
East Gaston slipped past West Lincoln 5-4 Tuesday, despite big days from junior Kendall Barrett and senior Katie Davis.
Barrett hit the first over-the-fence homer in, what’s believed to be, the past eight years, as she stroked a three-run shot to dead center in a 2-for-4 performance.
Davis threw a complete game, striking out eight batters and allowing seven hits on the mound in suffering the hard-luck loss.
Leading hitters were: senior Sheana Black who went 2-for-4 and junior Holly Hoover who was 2-for-3.
The Lady Rebels tallied eight hits and committed three errors. East Gaston had two errors.

Lincolnton baseball
Shelby downed Lincolnton 12-2 Tuesday at Brookins Memorial Field.
Dustin Reeves earned the win on the mound, while Brad Goodson (0-2) suffered the loss.
Leading hitters for the Wolves were: Kenny Reed 2-for-2 with a double. Clint Goodson 1-for-1 with a double.
North Gaston beat Lincolnton 10-0 Monday.
The winning pitcher was Jake Buchanon who worked four innings, allowed no hits and struck out seven.
Brandon Locklin (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
Leading hitters for the Wolves were: Tyler Howard 1-for-2, Brad Goodson 1-for-2, Trevor Scott 1-for-1.

Lincolnton tennis
The Wolves fell to 0-2 with a 6-3 loss to Bandys Tuesday.
Adil Huselja, Michael Montes and Montgomery Fortenberry recorded singles victories for the Wolves, while Stephen Williamson, Jacob Thie and Brooks Robinson won single matches for the Trojans.
Bandys swept doubles competition.
Monday, the Wolves lost a hard-fought match to Hunter Huss at home 5-4.
Huselja, William Avilla and Fortenberry recorded wins in singles, while Huselja/Avilla were responsible for the lone doubles match the Wolves won.

Southern Piedmont Golf
Lincolnton edged North Lincoln 170-171, as Shelby (177) came in third. South Iredell finished last with 190.
Brandon Konitzer shot a 37 for Shelby as the match medalist.
Top golfers for Lincolnton were: Trey Gazdeck with a 41, Ben Beal with a 43, Landon High with a 43 and Daniel Good with a 43.
Top golfers for North Lincoln were: Kenny Bethea with a 39, Jacob Kelly with a 41, Andrew Keene with a 45, Matthew Wentworth with a 46.
