Wolves fall in opener

Monday, the Lincolnton Wolves fell 11-3 to South Point in their season opener.
Lincolnton was behind 2-0 entering the fifth, but the Red Raiders scored four (three of them unearned) to take a 6-0 lead.
The Wolves scored two in the bottom of the fifth, whittling the lead to 6-2, but the Red Raiders scored three more in the top of the sixth to take a commanding lead.
Leading hitters for Lincolnton were: Brad Goodson 2-for-4, Nate Wright 1-for-2 and Demery Brewer 1-for-2.
Wright and Goodson had one RBI apiece.
Brewer, a three-sport athlete, is also expected to make an impact on the diamond after standing out in JV a season ago.
Goodson pitched four innings, gave up 8 hits, no walks and struck out three in the loss.
Wolves head coach Cole Sigmon returns just two starters in Kenny Reed and Wright. He believes it will take some time to see how good his team will be with so much inexperience.
“We played pretty good for four innings, then we made some mistakes. I don’t think we’re real young, but we’re very inexperienced everywhere,” he said.
Lincolnton will face South Point again today at 4:30 p.m. and tomorrow will host Maiden at 4:15.
