Regionals start today

The 1A/2A Individual Regionals get underway at Newton-Conover tonight at 6:30 p.m. and three is plenty of representation from Lincoln County.
West Lincoln had the most wrestlers qualify for regionals with 11. East Lincoln had the next most with six, North Lincoln had five and Lincolnton had three.
“We certainly have good representation from the county and that’s good for everybody,” Rebels head coach Butch Ross said.
Ross believes for all qualifiers it was an accomplishment to be proud of due to the stout competition in the region.
“It’s a real tough region and there are probably only two weight classes where people got in that had less than a .500 winning percentage,” he said.
As for his own team, Ross sounds like a proud dad.
“They’ve had a real good year and I think they’ll give 100-percent. I think we’ll come out OK and we’ll have a good many place in the top four to travel on to the top four to the state tournament,” he said, alluding to the 1A/2A State competition next Friday and Saturday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
