East Lincolnâ€™s men swim team won the 1A/2A State Championship Saturday held on the campus of North Carolina State University.
The Mustangs scored 240 team points to best runner-up Cardinal Gibbons (190.5), Mount Airy (176), Hillsborough Cedar Ridge (134) and Reidsville (119).
East Lincolnâ€™s women finish fifth, tallying 86 points.
East vs. West
East Lincoln beat West Lincoln 77-39 Friday night.
Senior Trishtan Johnson scored 15 points and dished out six assists, while his teammate Jamelle Lowery had 14 points and seven reboundsâ€”both in limited playing time.
Travis Jones and Daniel Payseur paced West Lincoln (5-17, 2-10) with eight points apiece.
Alex Newsome continued his strong play with eight points, six rebounds and four blocks. Spencer Sydney dished out seven assists for the Mustangs (17-5, 10-2).
Lady Rebels keep rolling
The Lady Rebels downed the Mustangs 51-36 Friday night behind another strong night from senior Sara Elmore.
Elmore, who scored 42 points against Highland Tech last week, had another double-double as she finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.
Freshman Kayda Caldwell contributed 12 points, had four rebounds and three assists. Jessie Watts chipped in with six.
Krista Moore had a team-high 15 points in the loss.
Cats snap win streak
Western Carolina (11-13, 5-4) snapped Davidsonâ€™s 19-game win streak, which was good enough for third in the nation entering Saturdayâ€™s game.
Former Lincolnton all-time leading scorer Eric Wilson scored seven points, had four rebounds and two steals in the 77-70 victory.
Corey Muirhead paced Western with a career-high 23 points.
The Cats are on the road tonight to take on Georgia Southern at 7:30 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga.
First Round of State Duals
West Lincoln will square off against Forest Hills in the first pairing, while Newton-Conover will take on host North Rowan at 6 p.m. tonight.
For those wanting to attend, North Rowan High School is located at 300 N. Whithead Ave. in Spencer.
Lincolnton beat North Lincoln 24-20 Friday at home.
The Lady Wolves were led by Stephanie Brownâ€™s seven points, while Morgan Wolf had six. Brittney Morrow had five in the win.
Amanda Leonard paced the Lady Knights with eight points, while teammate Maria Chachon had six.
Lincolnton improves to .500 in Southern Piedmont play at 5-5 with the win.
North Lincoln will host a mandatory sports meeting for any athlete planning to try out for a spring sport Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
A parent or guardian must attend with each student athlete.
