Kathryn Thorne, Alyssa Lowe and Ashley Thackeray all came up huge for the Lady Knights (11-7, 8-1) down the stretch in North Lincoln’s 53-49 victory over Cherryville (8-9, 5-4).
Just over one minute left, Thorne tied the contest at 48. On the ensuing possession for the Knights, Lowe nailed a 3-pointer, with 45 seconds left, giving the home team a 51-48 lead.
With the Lady Ironmen unable to make anything happen down three, Thackeray, only a freshman, hit a pair of free throws with 14.8 seconds remaining for the proverbial nail in the coffin.
Lowe paced the Lady Knights with 22 points, while Thorne added 11.
Meggan Farnsworth scored a team-high 15 points. Megan Bridges had 12 in the loss.
After the game, several of the Lady Knights wore t-shirts with the words ‘Falasca’s Friends,’ on them.
On the back of the t-shirts read the message one team, one family, one mission. Chris Falasca, a 32-year old wrestling coach at North Lincoln, remains in a coma after being in a one-car wreck last Monday night.
Proceeds from the t-shirts will go towards Falasca’s hospital bills. Family and friends remain in prayer in hopes he’ll come out of his coma.
The Knights’ wrestling team defeated Highland Tech 48-18 Tuesday night.
