Lincoln Optimist Basketball
Sign-ups are underway for basketball through Nov. 26 for Lincoln Optimist Basketball.
On Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon at Byrd’s Sundries is one location and another option is on weekdays at Kate McCall (located at 317 E. Pine Street) from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Boys and girls kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible. If you would like to sponsor or coach a team, contact Chris Brogden at 704-732-1987 before 9 p.m.
For the second straight year, the physical education department at North Lincoln will host a basketball game featuring ‘Honey Pot,’ a comedy donkey.
Donkey basketball is played with four donkeys and four riders on each team. Rules are necessary, but since the donkeys can’t read and players will be too excited to remember them, the referee will make up rules as the game is played.
The Community Organization team will attempt to defend their title after defeating the Student Blue team 8-6 in the championship last year.
At halftime, there will be free donkey rides to kids 12-and-under. Children with a paid admission ticket in hand, accompanied by a paying parent or guardian will be eligible for the ride.
Presale tickets can be purchased for $5 at the North Lincoln High School main office. At the gate, tickets will be $8. Proceeds will benefit the Knights’ athletic programs.
The YMCA is also currently taking registration for a co-ed dodgeball tournament that will take place Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. The deadline is Oct. 24.
Cost is $100 per team for a 10-player squad. You do not have to be a YMCA member.
The YMCA also is taking registration for the ‘Lil Dribblers’ Basketball.
The 3-6 year old youngsters will practice the fundamentals of basketball while being encouraged to grow spiritually, mentally and physically in a fun, safe environment.
‘Lil Dribblers’ will meet Saturdays, Oct. 15-Nov. 12 from 9-10 a.m. in the YMCA gym. The cost is $35 for members and $50 for non-members.
