Get a head start on Denver Days fun

DENVER–While the Denver Days celebration doesn’t officially start until Friday, the amusement rides and games will be coming to the site of the Denver Days festival one day early.
According to Jerry Earnest, President of Denver Days, the contract for Cole Amusements was for Thursday Sept. 29 to Saturday Oct. 1.
“We contracted with them because people were complaining last year of the high ride prices,” he said. “We also want to do something with the kids.”
According to Betsy Cole with Cole Amusements, Thursday will be a kids night, where kids can ride for $12 or $10 with a coupon.
“We’ve sent flyers home with the (Denver-area) schoolchildren,” she said.
Cole will feature 11 rides, including the dizzy dragon, scat, heart flip, sizzler and kiddee rides.
The scat holds 28 people according to the website colerides.com and riders stand instead of sit inside the ride which moves in a circular motion.
The heart flip, meantime, can hold 16 people. That ride moves in a circular swinging motion. Riders sit and are able to control the spinning speed of their heart seats by turning a steering wheel located in the center of each heart.
“All of the riders are given safety instructions before each rides starts,” said Cole.
The newest ride Cole’s Amusements will showcase is the Supershot.
“That’s a 93-foot tall droptower,” she said.
The website also lists several kiddie rides available for booking.
Cole Amusements are based in Covington, Va.
The company came to Denver this past Sunday, with the rides being set-up the day after.
“They’ll have to be inspected before Thursday,” said Earnest, “and this year the rides will be a lot better than last because there’s more of them with a lot less money to ride.”
During Denver days, individual ride ticket prices are 50 cents each, with 24 tickets for $10.
“It takes four tickets to ride each kiddie ride,” said Cole, “and anywhere between five to seven tickets per adult ride.”

In addition to rides, vendors and a stage, fair-goers will be able to take in boat and new car displays (see map). Another attraction this year will be Family Fun Night on Thursday. Contributed Photo
