Fund raiser aids ministry

More than 500 cans of food were donated to Lincoln County Christian Ministry after a Coach Pitch Tournament was held at the West Lincoln Optimist Park earlier this month.
Some of the items included sugar, saltines, soap, oatmeal and grits.
The tournament was held Aug. 5, 6 and 7. On the last day of the tournament, people who brought five cans of food got in for free.
“Along with the food donations we were able to raise enough money to purchase new catching equipment for the boys` kid pitch and the girls` fast pitch,” said Amy Adams, a volunteer with the club.
Next year the club is planning to host the second annual canned food drive with intentions to double the goal.
In other news, the West Lincoln Optimist Club has also extended sign-ups for soccer. A last sign-up will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers and contributions are always appreciated for the park.
