Herbert ready in Brainerd

Doug Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team have been anxious to get back to the track. They will get their chance soon enough as the entire NHRA POWERade series heads up to northern Minnesota this weekend.
The next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event is the 24th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, Aug. 11-14. Pro qualifying starts at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and continues at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Why so anxious to get back to the track? Herbert drove the Snap-on Tools/Doug Herbert Per formance Center car to the final round at the last event, earning the runner-up finish in Sonoma, Calif. during the last event.
“That was the best the car has run all season,” Herbert said. “We made eight passes for the first time since the season opener and all eight passes were good, especially the four runs we made on Sunday. (Crew chief) Wayne Dupuy gets better and better and we’re finally making the kind of progress that we all expected when we were lucky enough to be able to hire Wayne.”
Herbert has high hopes the team will continue on the path that includes winning rounds.
“The team has had a lot to do since Sonoma,” Herbert said.
“We went to Hot August Nights in Reno, we did an exhibition race in Salt Lake City and now we’re headed into Brainerd. Even with all the activities, we have been working on the car and Wayne has done a great job making sure we’re ready for the weekend.
“I like going to Brainerd. The fans are always ready for great racing and they know how to have a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to the weekend.”
Herbert will be the featured guest on Rik Anthony’s Back in the Pits radio show, which will air nationally Thursday. The audio can also be heard from the website, www.backinthepits.com
“Rik talked to me about my sister Heather being over in Baghdad in the Army,” Herbert said. “Hopefully she can listen to the interview. Our entire family misses her so much and I can’t wait for her to get home.”
ESPN2 will air all the racing this weekend. Qualifying can be seen at 6 p.m. (ET) on Saturday while the eliminations can be seen at 7 p.m. (ET) on Sunday. NHRA 2Day will start at 11:30 a.m. (ET) on Sunday.
