Cherryville was eliminated Monday in the state Junior Legion baseball tournament at Hickory.
Pitt County rallied for a 9-8 victory in the loser’s bracket semifinal to end Post 100’s season with a 19-12 record.
Cherryville had taken an 8-6 lead in the top of the sixth inning on a three-run home run by Jake Watts.
However, in the bottom of the sixth, Watts gave up a three-run homer that put Pitt County back on top, 9-8.
Watts served up a belt-high fastball on a 1-0 count, and the ball was driven over the center field fence.
Post 100 had two baserunners in the top of the seventh but could not move them into scoring position.
In addition to his three-run shot, Watts, hitting .433 on the season, slugged a solo homer earlier in the game.
After the win over Cherryville, Pitt played another game Monday night in the loser’s bracket final and lost 3-2 to Kinston.
Kinston played South Caldwell Tuesday in the championship round at the Catawba County Fairgrounds and forced two games for the title.
In game one, Kinston won 6-4. In the deciding game, South Caldwell claimed the state title with a 4-0 victory.
South Caldwell advances to the regional tournament in the Junior Legion playoffs.
