The West Lincoln Belles saw their bid for a state softball title fall short with a semifinal loss in the N.C. State Dixie Youth Softball tournament at Shallotte.
The Belles, playing in the 13-15 year-old division, finished 2-2 for the tournament Tuesday after a 9-4 loss to Brunswick in an elimination game, according to District 2 commissioner Earl Peeler of the West Lincoln Optimists.
In earlier games in the tournament, the Belles defeated Perquimas 7-4, lost to South Stanly 7-2 and defeated Duplin America 12-2.
Two other West Lincoln Optimist district champions were eliminated in the state 11-12 and 7-8 divisions.
In the 11-12 division, the West Lincoln Pony Tails dropped from the field after losing two games, 5-4 to Sampson America and 6-0 to South Stanly.
In the 7-8 division, the West Lincoln Darlings lost to Montgomery County 10-9 and to Bunn 17-16.
In other action involving area teams, Boger City had reached the semifinals of the 7-8 Darling division on Tuesday against Cherrryville, Peeler said.
In its path to the semifinals, Boger City defeated West Stanly, lost to Burgaw and defeated Bunn 13-6.
