Apex will be Cherryville Post 100’s opening game opponent Friday in the state Junior Legion tournament at the Catawba County Fairgrounds in Hickory.
Cherryville and Apex play the final game of opening day at 7 p.m.
If Post 100 wins Friday, it will play again in the winner’s bracket on Saturday at 7 p.m. If Post 100 falls into the loser’s bracket after Friday, the team’s next game will be Saturday at 10 a.m.
The eight-team, double-elimination field also includes Rowan County and South Caldwell. Cherryville has already played Rowan County in the playoffs, losing a best-of-three quarterfinal series two games to one.
The No. 1 seed from the East is Cary. Cherryville won a doubleheader from Cary earlier in the season.
The junior tournament runs through Tuesday, with all games at the Catawba County Fairgrounds. Ticket prices are $6 per session (two games) or $25 for an all-tournament pass.
Even through the team was eliminated earlier in the playoffs, Cherryville earned a berth in the state tournament as the host seed.
The Post 100 B team has a number of Lincoln County players on the roster, including Jake Watts of West Lincoln and Nate Wright of Lincolnton.
