Duo wins Norman bass tournament
With a five fish limit catch weighing 13.20 pounds, the team of Roy Winkler from Charlotte and Chris Curtis of Conover took first place honors in Fridayâ€™s Friday Night Fishinâ€™ Friends group (FNFF) team bass tournament on Lake Norman.
Finishing second was the team of Tim Garner from Lincolnton and David Avery of Cherryville. They weighed in a catch of 12.20 pounds.
Shane Hill and David Chastain from Cleveland were third with 11.95 pounds.
Big fish honors for the night went to the team of Barry Bost from Concord and Greg Sims of China Grove for their 4.60 pound largemouth.
The event goes out of Midway Marina every Friday night at 7 until August 12th. Entry fee is $40 per team for each tournament. The tournament is sponsored by the Balls Creek Bassmasters.
Former WL runners win age division races at Morganton
Two former West Lincoln High School runners won their age divisions in the Saturday night Morganton Street Light 5K Road Race.
Melissa Buff, a former cross country runner at Lenoir-Rhyne College, finished in 21 minutes flat. Brittany Beeker, an incoming freshman at Appalachian State, finished in 21:14.
Charlotte driver wins Late Model feature
Ronnie White of Charlotte won the 20-lap Late Model Modified Sportsman main event Saturday at East Lincoln Motor Speedway.
It was Whiteâ€™s second straight win at the track and fourth of the season.
Billy Bishop finished second, followed by Jamie Gray, Woody Vosburgh and Troy Wilson to complete the top five.
High school student Josh Wright of Mooresville held off Jamie Kuntz of Concord to win the I.M.C.A. Modified 25-lap event.
Tony Palladino won the Stock Four race, followed by Gary Pechi, Joahn Faulk, Jimmy White and Alan Hogan to round out the top five.
Other winners were David Lucas in Rookie Four, Jonathann Hager in Mini Sprints, and Fabian Anderson in Road Hawgs.
