Denver falls to Greenbelt

Denver Post 455 fell to Greenbelt 14-3 Thursday night in a rain-delayed game.
Greenbelt, from Maryland, surged out to an 8-0 lead courtesy of five hits and two bases on balls.
They followed the big inning by scoring six runs in the next two innings.
Mitchell Lynch, Trent Thornburg and Colby Burgin strung together RBI-singles in the second.
Thornburg, a late-season addition to the roster, was a bright spot for Post 455 going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Denver falls to 10-8 on the season with the loss.
So does Bolick believe the defeat will hurt his team’s confidence heading into the playoffs?
“No, I don’t think so. We just need to play. We hadn’t played in a week,” he said. “We just need to get on the field, having not played since last Friday,” he added.

American Legion pairings
Denver (9-7, 10-8) will face Henderson (9-9, 9-11) in the first round of the American Legion Baseball Playoffs.
Henderson, a No. 4 seed from the West, is on quite a hot streak, having won 7-of-their-last 10 division games.
Their hot play included wins over No. 1 Caldwell and No. 2 Shelby of the Western Division.
Bolick admitted he didn’t know much about his competition, but points out they were the only team that beat Caldwell (17-1) in the division.
“They were playing well in the second half of the year and of course they beat Caldwell and Shelby back-to-back nights, so that means they threw two different pitchers,” he said. “So they must be pretty good,” he added.
Denver is a No. 5 seed from the East.
While the trip to East Henderson High School is over two hours away, Bolick does not believe that will play much a role in the series.
“I don’t really know. It’s a pretty good ride, but we’re not going to make any excuses. They have to come down here too, so it goes both ways.”
Cherryville (11-5, 17-8) has home-field advantage as they take on Asheville (8-10, 8-11) in the first round.
Post 100, who struggled with the bats for a few games, rebounded in a big away, reeling off 12 straight wins.
In an aberration of their solid play, Cherryville lost its regular season finale at home versus Pineville 18-2.
Asheville is a No. 7 seed from the West. Cherryville is a No. 2 seed from the East.
