Debutantes presented at ball held in Shelby

Fifty-nine young women from 18 area cities and towns were presented to society in the Junior Charity League of Shelby’s 60th Annual Debutante Ball on June 11.
The weekend’s activities began Friday morning with a debutante registration and coffee at the home of the Judge and Mrs. James Morgan.
Friday evening included a Parent Dinner Dance at Cleveland Country Club and a Poolside Debutante Dance at Cleveland Country Club.
Debutantes and their chief marshals were honored Saturday morning with a Father-Daughter Brunch at Deerbrook Golf Club.
A Mother’s Luncheon was be held Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Holbrook..
The formal presentation of the debutantes was held at 8 p.m. at Cleveland Community College.
The event included the debutantes, their chief marshals, assistant marshals, mothers and invited guests. Music for the evening was provided by the Frank Love Orchestra. Commentator for the event is Erskine Glenn Moore.
Ms. Jennifer Rose and Mrs. Mark Carter were co-chairs for this year’s ball. Mrs. Daniel Lee served as secretary to the debutantes.
The annual event allows the Junior Charity League of Shelby to continue with its service to Cleveland County’s children through ‘The Clothing Room’ and ‘Kids on the Block’ projects.
The 2004-05 school year saw the League providing nearly 900 underprivileged children with coats and warm clothing.
Through the use of the Kids on the Block puppets, third graders throughout Cleveland County were presented a program on such delicate subjects of child abuse, drug awareness and mental and physical handicaps.

Ellen Mackensie Blankenship, daughter of Randal G. Blankenship of Hickory and Juanita Houser of Lincolnton and granddaughter of Martha J. Houser of Lincolnton and Selma Williams of Hickory. Chief Marshal: Stacy Boeing Houser; Assistant Marshal: Michael Scott Reinhardt.

Suzanne Elizabeth Brooks, daughter of Stephen Eugene and Marilyn Hough Brooks and granddaughter of Sue McSwain Hough of Dallas. Chief Marshal: Mr. Brooks; Assistant Marshal: Jonathan Stephen Brooks.

Anna Gray Carpenter, daughter of Ernest Scott and Marni Suttle Carpenter and granddaughter of Anita Peterson Suttle and Mabel Ramsey Carpenter, both of Lincolnton. Chief Marshal: Mr. Carpenter; Assistant Marshal: Isaac MacFarlane Carpenter.

Meredith Ann Gilleland, daughter of John Osborne and Elizabeth Hoyle Gilleland Jr. and granddaughter of Elizabeth Abernethy Hoyle and Mr. and Mrs. John Osborne Gilleland Sr., all of Lincolnton. Chief Marshal: Mr. Gilleland; Assistant Marshal: Pedro Octavio Fonseca.

Laura Jane Kiser, daughter of Thomas Alvin and Carol Wehunt Kiser. Chief Marshal: Mr. Kiser; Assistant Marshal: Jordan Allen Webb.

Mary Heather Lineberger, daughter of Robert Henry and Lois Warlick Lineberger Jr. and granddaughter of Robert H. Lineberger Sr. of Lincolnton, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter T. Warlick of Vale. Chief Marshal: Mr. Lineberger; Assistant Marshal: Matthew David Goodson.
