Two win NAACP scholarships

Shauntel Boatwright and Taisha Morrison have been named 2005 scholarship winners of the Lincoln County branch of the NAACP. The scholarships, announced June 6 are in the amount of $1,500 each for the college of their choice.
Boatwright, a graduate of Lincolnton High School, is the daughter of B.O. Boatwright and the late Wanda Boatwright.
A member of Beta Club, Key Club, and National Honor Society, she graduated 27 out of a class of 202 with a 4.67 grade point average (GPA). She also was an advanced placement mentor and tutored students after school at the old Oaklawn School. She plans to attend Winston-Salem State University, majoring in accounting.
Morrison graduated from East Lincoln High and is the daughter of Thomas and Belinda Morrison. She played basketball for eight years and ran track four years. She was assistant secretary of the ELHS Diversity club, and member of both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. She plans on attending Winston-Salem State University, majoring in elementary education.by Special to the LTN
