Festival boasts new events

East Lincoln residents can find their share of strawberries and amusement at the 20th annual Strawberry Festival this Saturday.
The event will take place at East Lincoln High School from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in order to raise money for the Parent Teacher association.
New additions this year include the Little Miss Strawberry Festival, open to children up to age of six. There will be three different categories, 0-2, 3-4, and 5 to 6-year-olds.
There will also be a dog contest with awards for the best looking dog, the ugliest dog, the pet and owner look-a-like and the smartest dog. Participants must register before 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Debbie Hultgren, the chair of the festival said she hopes this year will bring in lots of people.
“I wanted to add some new and exciting events to build the festival back up,” Hultgren said.
Other events include an appearance by Mrs. North Carolina who will sign autographs and share her platform on the March of Dimes. She will also crown the Little Miss Strawberry Festival winners.
Food vendors include Super Snack Shop, Chick-Fil-A and Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Entertainment will include amusement rides from Flex Flying, Inc., a rock climbing wall, carpet golf, pony and horse rides and a petting zoo.
Strawberries will be provided by Kildeer Farms.
Hultgren has already started planning for next year where the festival will have a pageant up to the teen years and a 5K run.
