West Henderson shot a 309 to win the 2A West Regional played Monday at Mountain Glenn Country Club in Newland
Hibriten qualified for the 2A State Championship with a 315, edging North Henderson, which shot a 316.
The Lincolnton Wolves finished with a 343, which put them in eighth place.
The match medalist was a Midwest 2A representative, as Shelby’s Mac Konitzer shot a 72. Bandys’ Jay Stevens qualified for the state with a score of 76.
The Wolves were led by Morty Wadsworth and Daniel Goodson, who both shot an 84. Other scores were Matthew Goodson with an 87 and Michael Allred with an 88.
Wolves’ head coach Scott Cloninger, somewhat disappointed with his team’s play, believed the sub 40-degree weather played a part.
“Conditions were not very good and I was glad to see Morty and Daniel fight through the cold conditions and bring in decent scores,†he said.
Cloninger is hoping the return of Wadsworth and Goodson, along with freshman John Gilleland will bolster their chances in 2006.
“They’re (Morty and Daniel) two of the guys that are returning, so they know how it feels to go to regionals,†he said. “So, hopefully, they’ll work hard and encourage their teammates to do the same to prepare for next year.â€
