Woman charged in downtown fight

A Lincolnton woman faces assault charges following a fight outside a local business last week.
Jessica Burgin, 20, of 235 Hill Road, is charged with misdemeanor assault, according to reports.
Police responded to an assault call last Wednesday at Eckerd Drug in Lincolnton, which is across the street from the Lincolnton Police Department, said police Capt. Danny Hallman.
A fight had broken out between Burgin and another woman stemming from a domestic disturbance earlier that day, Officer Chuck McGinley said.
During the fight, Burgin allegedly bit the other woman and scratched her neck, McGinley said.
The woman said Burgin then pulled a gun case out of the car she was riding in. Police arrived and broke up the fight.
Inside the case was a 12-gauge shotgun, police said. Seven rounds were loaded into the gun.
The gun was confiscated by police until a judge can decide what to do with it, McGinley said.
The other woman is not facing charges in the incident, police said.by Alice Smith
