Itâ€™s spring at the senior center.
The center, headquartered at the Lincoln campus of Gaston College, has scheduled many activities, including events geared towards Older Americans Month.
May 3 will feature Senior Health Fitness programs from 9 a.m. – noon.
A mystery (day) trip is planned but not yet scheduled. Trips in the past have included visits to a recycling plant, a water treatment plant and to South Carolina to shop in outlet malls.
The second Monday of the month is movie day. Participant may pick the movie and have snacks. It is held in both Lincolnton and at the East Lincoln Community Center.
A seniors Application Group meets on the second Wednesday of each month. It is a part of the Piece Makers Guild, which meets the first Wednesday of each month. Members do quilt work for charity. Beginners are welcome. For more information call Jean Payne at (704) 435-3682.
The following are several of the services/activities offered at the senior center:
Â· Duplicate bridge meets from 1 -5 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Â· Card Club meets from 1 – 5 p.m. on Thursdays; Thursday night bridge is held from 6 – 9 p.m.
Â· Catawba Valley Post-Polio support group meets 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month.
Â· AARP chapter #3682 meets from noon – 1:30 p.m. the third Thursday each month (except July and August).
Â· Lincolnton area cancer support group meets from 6 – 7:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Â· Bingo starts 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Friday of every month.
Check the office for monthly schedules, which may change for different activities. Also check with for an Older Adults Resource Guide. It contains a variety of information, from community help to Medicare/Medicaid and other important information and advice.
For more information on the activities and waiting list, call (704) 732-9053. The office is opened 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The senior center is located in the same building as Gaston College on Academy Street. However, the services are not a part of Gaston College.
