Racing at East Lincoln Speedway resumes

The 16th season of weekly stock car racing got underway last Saturday night at East Lincoln Speedway in front of a packed grandstand.
In I.M.C.A. action Jamie Kuntz took the checkers, but not without controversy. Pole sitter Tom Kinney jumped out front when the green waved only to lose the point to Greg Brown on the second circuit.
By lap six Shawn Martin was pressing Brown for the lead and moved out front the next time around. He held the front spot until lap 19 of the 20-lap chase. Kuntz had moved into second place at that point.
As the front pair exited turn two contact was made with Martin spinning allowing Kuntz to take the lead and go on to claim the win.
Fans and competitors debated as to whether the incident was just racing or deliberate. After a lengthy review by track officials it was ruled as racing with no penalties being applied.
Following Kuntz to the stripe were Josh Wright, Richard Clew, Eric Thompson and Kinney.
Brian Hickman won the Late Model Modified-Sportsman main event. He took the lead when the green waved only to experience distributor problems on lap four giving the front spot to outside front row starter Joe Bishop. Hickman fell back in the pack but as the race progressed he started picking off his competition one at a time. He retook the lead on lap 15 and stayed there for the remaining five laps of the 20-lap affair.
Rounding out the top five were Woody Vosburg, Mark Tucker, Troy Wilson and Bishop. In Stock Four action defending track champion Randy Powell cruised to victory over Tony Palladine, Brad Williams, Jamie Majors and Michael Shirak.
Buck Stevens was the class of the Rookie Four field. Billy Milstead was second, Adam Vandiver third, Brandon Mundy fourth and Adam Ritter fifth.
Brian Rosman defeated Tony Clements, Jonathan Hager, Kevin Sensor and David Hudson in the Mini-sprint feature race.
Racing action will return to the 3/8-mile clay oval on Saturday. It will be ‘Family Night’ with two adults and three children under 15 being admitted to the grandstand for $20. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with practice at 6 p.m. and racing beginning at 7 p.m. The East Lincoln Speedway is located at 1873 Mariposa Road, five miles east of Stanley. The track office telephone number is 704-263-5347.
