East Lincoln Softball
The Lady Mustangs defeated South Point 8-5 on Tuesday.
Peyton Pressley hit a two-run homer to tie the game 2-2 in the third inning. East Lincoln rallied for three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, due in large part to two more RBIs from Pressley. The Lady Mustangs took a 5-3 lead.
South Point battled back and tied the game at 5 in the sixth. Senior Amber Parker singled to advance Tricia Sherer, who had reached on a hard-hit ball in the rain, to third.
Alexis Rogers then helped her cause on the mound with a two-RBI double. She later scored on a passed ball.
Sam Betts turned in a ‘web gem’ on a liner to center field for the first out of the seventh. After two Lady Red Raiders reached consecutively, Second baseman Parker threw to shortstop Sonny Marthers for the force at second. Marthers then fired the ball to Pressley to complete the double play and end the game.
East Lincoln is now 5-6, 3-4 Big South 3A on the season.
On Monday, East Lincoln fell to East Gaston 3-0. Alexis Rogers pitched a four-hitter, struck out seven and allowed no earned runs in the losing cause.
Out of the 34 batters to come to the plate for East Lincoln, none struck out.
