Mustangs’ head coach Matt Neville was thrilled with his team’s victory and believes it might be his biggest while at East Lincoln
“It`s the biggest win of the season and probably the biggest win this team has ever had probably. I would say it`s the biggest team win we`ve had at East Lincoln for these group of kids,” he said.
The Wildcats beat Ashbrook which proved to the Mustangs, entering the game, they had to play their best to win.
“To come off losing to Ashbrook 8-3, and knowing they beat Ashbrook, we knew we had to rise to the occasion and we really brought our A-game today,” Neville said.
The Mustangs racked up 13 hits on the day.
“We were solid 1-through -9, but our 3, 4 and five really delivered the punch that we needed,” Neville said.
With the Easter Baseball Tournament looming at Lincolnton on Monday, Neville hopes the win will give them plenty of momentum heading into their first game against West Lincoln.
“It`s a huge confidence builder and I hope we can use this enthusiasm and I intensity we`ve created to put forth our best showing in this tournament,” he said.
The Mustangs are 7-4 on the season with a 3-1 Big South 3A mark.
