Lady Rebels win in seventh
West Lincolnâ€™s Sheana Black drove in Holly Hoover, who had doubled, in the bottom of the seventh for a thrilling 5-4 win Thursday over Bessemer City.
Black, a junior went 4-for-4 with two singles and two doubles and three stolen bases. Sophomore Haley Hoover went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Senior Paula Jarrett went 2-for-3.
Black also earned the victory on the mound, striking out two and only walking one.
The Lady Yellow Jackets scored in the top half of the seventh to tie the game at four. The Lady Rebels are now 3-2 on the season.
â€œI was glad to see the girls work together and stay behind each other to pull this game off. We still had one key player out sick and there are some minor places here and there that need tweaking,â€ West Lincoln head coach Mia Cooke said.
The East Lincoln Mustangs beat the North Lincoln Knights 7-2 on Thursday.
East Lincolnâ€™s No. 1 seed Andrew Keener defeated Daniel Paulk 10-3. Alex Willhite defeated Northâ€™s Zane Heafner 10-8 at No. 2. Pete Pitsikoulis beat George Lampron 10-1.
At No. 4 North Lincolnâ€™s Joe Fletcher defeated Kendal Law 10-8. Taylor Brown made it back-to-back wins for North, beating Houston Stokes 10-2. Mustangsâ€™ No. 6 Adam Pressley defeated Jay Frushtick 10-3.
In No. 1 doubles, Willhite/Keener defeated Paulk/Lampron 8-6. At No. 2, Law/Pitsikoulis defeated Heafner/Fletcher 8-3. At No. 3, Stokes/Pressley beat Brown/Frushtick 8-5 to close out the match.
â€œWe were fortunate to get a win today. North came out and played much better than the previous match. Pete (Pitsikoulis) played smart today and won convincingly in a match that was closely contested last week,â€ Mustangsâ€™ head coach Mike Davis said.
â€œAdam (Pressley) played very well in both singles and doubles. I know it hasnâ€™t been easy for him since he has played with three different partners in four of the matches. We mixed up our doubles combinations and I am happy with the way they played together,â€ he added.
North Lincolnâ€™s record is now 1-3. East Lincoln improves to 2-2.
North Lincoln softball
The North Lincoln Lady Knights continued their fast start to their softball season, beating Lake Norman 6-1 on Friday.
Nicole Hall, Lindsey Smith and April Wilson each went 2-for-4, with Hall and Smith both producing a RBI.
Jenna Torbert crushed a triple to the left field fence, then scored on a wild pitch. Courtney Feldon, Kim Shoemaker and Amanda Leonard all singled.
Junior Nicole Baxter struck out 11 batters en route to a one-hitter.
The Knights are 3-0 on the season and will visit Hendersonville on Tuesday.
The West Lincoln JV Rebels softball team dismantled Bessemer City 19-0 Thursday.
Sarah Norman had a perfect night going 4-for-4 with two inside-the-park homeruns, a single, double and two RBIs. Whitney Sain went 2-for-2 with one homer, a triple and two walks. She also stole three bases in the first inning, including a swipe of home.
Lindsey Bollinger went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two walks. She also stole three bases, as well as home.
Jessie Watts was the winning pitcher, striking out six batters in only three innings. The JV Rebels are now 3-0 on the season.
