The North Lincoln Knights softball team won their season opener 8-5 Friday night.
The Knights got off to a quick start scoring four in the first inning. They added three in the third for a 7-0 cushion.
The Trojans narrowed the deficit to 7-5 scoring a combined five runs in the fifth and sixth innings. North added an insurance in the bottom of the sixth.
Lindsey Smith had a triple, a single and walked, while Courtney Feldon had a single, double, sacrifice and one RBI. Nicole Hall went 2-for-4 with a single and a double.
Kim Shoemaker, McKenzie Harkey and Donia McDonald each contributed singles. Jenna Torbert, April Wilson and Kayla Alexander had a RBI apiece.
Nicole Baxter pitched a complete-game striking out five batters and allowing seven hits for her first win of the season.
The victory starts the Knightsâ€™ quest to return to the NC 1A Final Four off on a good foot. North Lincoln finished third in the state last season.

Three 2002 graduates from West Lincoln High School are making the most of their college baseball opportunities.
Second baseman Matt Craig went 5-for-5 with two homeruns for Limestone on Sunday. He is now batting a stellar .419 on the season through 22 games of play.
David Wise, a catcher, is a teammate of Craigâ€™s. He also is batting above .300 with an average of .324.
