Midwest 2A names team

The Midwest 2A announced its winter sports all-conference teams on Monday.
In men’s basketball, Lincolnton’s Zack Gibson and Lance Friday received slots on the team. West Lincoln’s Ryan Huffman also was named.
East Rutherford, who won both the regular season and post-season titles, swept the major awards. Guard Tion Watkins was named MW 2A Player of the Year, while coach Brad Levine garnered Coach of the Year honors.
Jawan Hamilton, Frank Easton and Giorgio Lowrance joined Watkins on the all-conference team.
Point guard Matt Oaks was Bandys’ lone selection.
For the women, it was once again a sweep for East Rutherford. Brittany Boyce was named Player of the Year, while her coach Larry Ross took Coach of the Year.
Lincolnton sophomore Jessie Cline was the only Lady Wolve to make it, while West Lincoln guard Candi Taylor also played her way onto the team.
Bandys’ Allison Brown and Ashley Waters made the team.
In wrestling, West Lincoln won all the top awards. Butch Ross was named Coach of the Year, while Antonio Rojo, having won the heavyweight state title, was named Wrestler of the Year.
Matt Avery, Zeb Elmore, John Harkey and Jeremy Pearson joined Rojo on the team.
It was West Lincoln’s top performance at the State Individual Championship.
Bandys’ William Gilleland, Colt Howell, B.J. Little, Craig McIntosh, Patrick McIntosh, Brian Sigmon and Jerry Stoger were also selected.
