The East Lincoln Mustangs won their second-straight Big South 3A game, beating the Ashbrook Green Wave 62-56 Friday.
Carlos-Marquez Sykes and Darin Dellinger led the Mustangs with 14 points apiece, while Wayne White scored 13 and Jamelle Lowery netted 12 points.
Lowery scored half of his points in the decisive fourth quarter.
The win creates a four-way tie for third place. East Lincoln joins Ashbrook, Hunter Huss and the Cardinals of Berry Academy. The BS 3A receives four slots in the state playoffs.
The Mustangs trailed 48-44 entering the fourth quarter, but aggressive defense by the home team held the Green Wave to only eight points in the final period. Part of that defensive effort was holding Darius Floyd, who had a game-high 24 points, to only two points.
With the win, East Lincoln improves to 11-6 and 4-4 in the BS 3A. They will visit Forestview on Tuesday.
The Lady Mustangs earned their first conference win of the season, squeaking past the Green Wave 52-50.
Deidra Gibson-Legrande, head coach of the Mustangs, was thrilled by the win.
“I’m very happy, but I’m more excited for the girls. They’ve been playing hard and now they get rewarded with a conference win,†she said.
Toree Roseboro and Alyson Kielar scored 16 points apiece for the Lady Mustangs. Koree Roseboro chipped in with seven, while Kim Scercy had six.
Toree nailed five-of-eight from the charity stripe in the fourth to help the home team hold on for the win.
East Lincoln is 4-13 on the season and 1-7 in the BS 3A.
