The North Lincoln Knights wrestling team turned in a strong showing at the New Yearâ€™s Brawl at the Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology.
Out of 10 teams represented, the Knights finished third. Derrick Hanks, only a sophomore, won his championship match in the 103 pound weight class.
Senior Brian Gentry, at 119 pounds, and heavyweight Justin Mintun both placed second. Aaron Licourt, at 112, Chad Saunders, at 125, and senior Brian Funk all won in the consolation finals earning each a third place finish.
Forbush won the Brawl with 168 team points, while East Forsyth finished second with 157 points. North Lincoln took third with 111 points.
Hopewell and A.L. Brown finished with 81 points each. West Charlotte had 75, North Mecklenburg had 72, Berry had 68, East Wilkes had 65 and Rosman finished with 59 points.
The match helped the Knights bounce back from a lopsided defeat at the hands of West Lincoln.
The Knights are 8-2 on the season and will host Cherryville today at 7 p.m. in a Southern Foothills 1A Conference match.
