Breanna Nicole Paul arrived just in time to be Lincoln County’s New Year baby.
The 8-pound, 7-ounce girl was born at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday at Lincoln Medical Center. Her parents Ashley and Alvin Paul of Lincolnton were surprised by the early arrival. She wasn’t due until Jan. 9.
Ashley Paul was having pain due to gall stones and went to the hospital on New Year’s Eve. Doctors decided to induce her labor, and Dr. John Chang delivered Breanna eight days early.
“She barely made the new year,†said Alvin Paul.
The new dad is hopping right on his responsibilities — changing diapers and cradling her, bottle in hand.
“I haven’t had to change a diaper yet,†Ashley Paul said.
Two other mothers were in the New Beginnings unit at Lincoln Medical Center on Saturday. Breanna arrived ahead of the rest. The first baby born in 2005 receives a bundle of gifts.
This year’s donations include the following:
· a new car seat from the fire department
· three free car washes from Auto Bell
· a $25 gift card from Harris Teeter
· a T-shirt and two shares of stock from Pepsi
· a $100 gift card from Wal-Mart
· a $20 gift card from The Drug Store
· an 8×10 photo from Ron Atchley
· a savings bond from First Charter Bank
Awarding a bag of goodies for the New Year’s baby is a tradition at the local hospital.
“We want to celebrate with the family the joy of a brand new baby and a brand new year,†said Courtney Hilliard, community relations coordinator at LMC. “The family in Lincoln County is blessed by many of our local vendors’ generosity.â€
